Featured Article: Is Drake Playing It Safe?

October's Very Own Drizzy is set to release his sophomore album, Take Care, October 24, but before you can cop the album Drake himself leaked two originals and a remix track to give us a taste of what to expect from the project. Yet, it seems as though we can probably expect more of the same from Drake on Take Care, unless he has something up his sleeve. With greatness comes great expectations and the expectations of what Drake is doing right now are exceeding the material he is releasing. Not to say that the material isn't great, but we have heard this before. We got the emotional Drake on Thank Me Later and as fans we have been waiting for that infectious club banger that we know Drake has somewhere in the cut. Nowadays the vitality to the life of a record begins on the internet and takes its second breath in the nightclubs. So, Drake [I’m just saying you can do bet-ter] or better yet, I’m just saying at least 1 out of 14 should be a club-ban-ger!

Over the summer Drake released two mellow hits, Marvin's Room and Trust Issues, but when he followed up with Headlines, Free Spirit, and Club Paradise, there is a sense that he is playing it safe; like he is settling into a comfort zone.

Over the 40 produced Club Paradise track, Drake continues to battle with his conscience about ex's, being overwhelmed by fame and the never dying love for his city. And on a Rick Ross assisted track, Drizzy is looking for a female with a Free Spirit to tattoo his name on her to “let‘em know it's real”. While these tracks are well crafted; is this all we can expect from the 14+ tracks on Take Care? From intro to outro, Thank Me Later, featured a lot of the same mellow tracks and it was hailed innovative and a different lane in music. Yet, if Drake continues to ride this lane into his second album, could he become a victim of the sophomore jinx? Is this project recycling songs like Success, Fear, Fireworks, and Karaoke; paraphrasing and disguising them as Marvin’s Room, Club Paradise, Free Spirit and Headlines? I’m just saying…is this better?
